January Match Reports

January has again been another really successful month for the under 9s division 3.The lads have played 3 league games and 1 cup game and have won all 4 games.

GAME 1 6/1/07 Woolston (home)
This was the lads first game since the Christmas break and in the first half the lads struggled to find the pre Christmas form. The second half saw a totally different game with super sub James Brewer firing in a hat trick and Ben Hilton and Bradley Brown netting one each to give Garswood an impressive 5-0 win.
Man of the Match went to our hat trick hero James Brewer.

GAME 2 13/1/07 Piranhas (away)
With Piranhas pitch not playable the fixture was switched to Garswoods Birch Grove pitch.
With the first meeting of these two teams ending in a 4-4 draw this was always going to be a close one.
The first half saw Garswood create numerous chances but the only goal came from our left-winger Reece Naylor.
The second half was much the same as the first with Garswood easily dealing with piranhas pressure before breaking down field to create chance after chance of their own. As the half wore on Garswood sealed the victory with a well-taken goal by Ross Pilling.
Man of the Match went to one of our rocks at the back Robert Green.

GAME 3 20/1/07 Bruche (home)
With both Garswood and Bruche in the promotion battle this was always going to be the hardest game of the month for Garswood and that’s how it turned out.
The pitch was heavy going but both teams worked hard to take the early advantage and against the run of play it was Bruche who took an early lead. But the ever-battling Garswood were soon back in it thanks to a great goal from Ross Pilling.
The game looked as though it would end in a draw, when in the last 2 minutes Ben Hilton came in off the left and was brought down in the box. Again super sub James Brewer calmly fired home the penalty.
Man of the Match went to our midfield general James Mitchell.

GAME 4 27/1/07 Matthiola div 4 (home)
This was cup weekend for us and the visit of Matthiola from Division 4 was a potential banana skin for Garswood.
The lads showed great character and battled for every ball and with the game less than 15 minutes old Garswood were 3-0 up thanks to a fantastic hat trick from Reece Naylor. In the last minutes of the half Garswood were 4 up courtesy of a wonder goal by Keelan Greenhalgh.
The second half saw Garswood make numerous changes to the staring line up in order to give the vast majority of the lads in the squad some extra game time.
The lads continued to battle away to defend their lead and late in the game following a rare corner Garswood added to that lead thanks to James Brewer.
Man of the Match again went to a hat trick hero and this time it was Reece Naylor.

SUMMARY
The month has seen Garswood score 14 Goals and conceded just 1, we are top of Division 3 and still in the cup.
Our leading scores are James Brewer with 11 goals and Reece Naylor With 10.
Come on lads keep up the good work.
