Culcheth Juniors v Garswood Hawks – 27th September

Garswood travelled to Culcheth for their early morning kick-off at the Oaks looking to rediscover their pre-season form after suffering consecutive setbacks in the last two games. The visitors were still struggling with numbers with only 13 lads available and were told to get at the opposition early on while pressing high up the pitch and the tactic paid off almost immediately. With less than 5 minutes on the clock Jay Herring flicked on a diagonal ball played from deep into the path of Jack Moore who clipped the ball past the keeper with his left foot from 10 yards out. Five minutes later after some smart interplay down the right channel from Cam Davies and Liam Dixon the ball fell to Captain Ollie Kennedy who rifled in a rocket with his right foot which flew over the keeper into the top corner. Ollie got his second of the game a few minutes later with a fine headed finish from a corner played in by Alexi Mellor, and then Jay Herring finished superbly when one on one with the keeper with a left footed drive. Garswood added to their tally just before half time when Jack Moore beat the keeper with a fine finish to put the visitors 0-5 up at the break.

Culcheth kicked off the second half and within a few minutes scored to reduce the deficit slightly before Alexi Mellor got a quick-fire double with two superb finishes to put the visitors 1-7 up. The visitors were slightly guilty of switching off in the last twenty minutes as Culcheth scored a couple of late goals to make the score-line look a little more respectable. No referee available and the hosts had no one who could step up but Garswood coach Paul Hughes guested with the whistle and put in a fine shift. He talked to both the lads and touchlines throughout and may have missed his vocation after a display like this!

Final Score – Culcheth Juniors 3 v Garswood Hawks 7

Scorers – Alexi Mellor (3), Ollie Kennedy (2), Jay Herring, Jack Moore – Man of the Match –  Jack Moore, all action display from Jack, looked comfortable on the ball and threatened every time he went forward.
