Garswood Hawks v Parkdale Sidac – 3rd October

Garswood welcomed Parkdale Sidac to Birch Grove for their mid-morning kick-off; the visitors had started the season well and were unbeaten going into this game but the hosts wanted to keep the momentum going after last week’s fine win. Both sides had a couple of chances before Garswood took the lead with 20 minutes gone as a fine corner from the right from Ryan Eden was bundled into the net at the back post by Alexi Mellor. Ryan almost extended the lead just before half time with a mazy run down the left hand side before cutting in and smacking the post but the hosts had to settle for just the one goal advantage at the break. Five minutes into the second half the lead was doubled after Cam Davies floated a free kick into the opponents box, Jay Herring flicking the ball on for Alexi to head past the keeper with another cool finish. A few minutes later Liam Dixon slid into a 50-50 in the centre of the pitch 40 yards out and connected solidly as the ball looped over the keeper (we know you meant it Liam)! The hosts made their second half dominance pay as a carbon copy of the opener saw Alexi Mellor nodding in another fine corner from Ryan Eden at the far post to give him his second hat-trick in as many games! Garswood played almost all of the second period in the opponents half and had a chance to add a fifth after Ethan Apter split the away defence sending Liam Hilton clear but his cheeky lob from 20 yards out ended just the wrong side of the crossbar. A good solid result against well drilled opponents who sat second in the league prior to today and a clean sheet thrown in which is always welcome.

Final Score – Garswood Hawks 4 v Parkdale Sidac 0

Scorers – Alexi Mellor (3), Liam Dixon – Man of the Match –  Alexi Mellor, on a red hot goal-scoring run and such a threat when he drives forward. He will no doubt be looking forward to another goal scoring performance on his old stomping ground at Bleak Hill next week.
