February Match Reports

Februarys games have again been really successful for the lads of Garswood under 9s.The lads won all 3 of the their games taking their winning run to 9 games.

GAME 1 3/2/07 Cromwell (away)
This game was a real six pointer with both teams in the promotion battle. The Garswood lads showed a fantastic team spirit and battled for every ball as if it was a cup final. By half time the lads were 1-0 up thanks to Robert Green.
In the second half there was only one team going to win this game as Garswood totally dominated and scored two more goals thanks to James Brewer and Keelan Greenhalgh
Man of the Match went to our ever-reliable keeper Perry Manning.

GAME 2 17/2/07 Winwick (home)
With last weeks game postponed the Garswood lads looked really rusty in this game. I think anyone who was at this game would agree this was probably their worst performance of the season so far.
But the good thing for us was the lads managed a 3-2 win thanks to goals from Reece Naylor and Keelan Greeenhalgh and a last minute own goal.
Man of the Match went to one of our defenders who had to work overtime today – Bradley Brown.

GAME 3 24/2/07 Piranhas (home)
The final game of the month was a last 16 cup game against Piranahs FC.
Following last week’s poor performance Garswood knew they would have to really lift their game if they wanted a place in the last 8.
From the first minute it was obvious the lads were up for this one and eventually ran out 3-0 winnners, thanks to goals from Ross Pilling, Keelan Greenhalgh and James Mitchell.
Man of the Match went to James Mitchell who led his team brilliantly.

SUMMARY
We have scored 9 goals this month and conceded just 2, we are still at the top of the table and in the last 8 of the cup.
Our leading scores are James Brewer with 12 goals and Reece Naylor With 11.
Come on lads keep up the good work.

Team Sponsorship

As with all teams when they first start up one of the things they lack is sponsorship for kits. The good thing for us was that we have been more fortunate than most and now have two great sponsors.

Introduction

0607_u9bintro

Garswood Under 9s B was formed in the summer of 2006,and in the early days we had a squad of just 9 players. Within two months the squad soon increased to its present level of 16 players.

With the vast majority of the lads in the squad never playing in a team before the main objective during the summer for myself, Neil Littler as Manager and Rick Mitchell as Head Coach was to get the lads as many friendly games and summer Tournaments as possible.

As the summer rolled on and the lads played more and more football it became very clear what an enthusiastic bunch of lads we had and it wouldn’t be long before they developed into a half decent team.

The highlight of the summer for me was when the lads represented Garswood in the Manchester Festival of Soccer. The lads all showed a lot of commitment and despite winning only one game all had a great day with each player coming home with a medal, a goodie bag and a picture of themselves with the F.A Cup.

The Wombles put the fun back into football!

It’s been a long, hard but enjoyable season for the boys of the Clubs Under 9 Warrington Junior Football League Division 3 Squad.

However, the pressures of coaching the lads toward the League Championship seems to have eventually taken its toll on Squad Coach Rick Mitchell (left) and Team Manager Neil Littler (extreme right).

We must stress that the grey hair, droopy ears and elongated noses are by no means typical examples of the effects of their total involvement in, and full commitment to grassroots football but more to the point they are just rewards for their part in ‘setting up’ Club Secretary Tom Nugent at the recording of the forthcoming Anthony Cotton Show at Granada Television Studios on Saturday 2nd. June (more later).
