Garswood 5-3 East Leigh B

What game !, What a performance ! and What a finish to the season !

Having scored just one goal in the previous nine matches and only 14 goals all season, Garswood went nap with, FIVE, absolutely  tremendous strikes in a pulsating end to end final game. The match started badly for Garswood who found themselves 2 nil down and but for some super saves from keeper Adam BOWERS could have been even further behind. Then, with the seconds ticking away towards half time, Tyler DUFFY swung in a perfect corner, striker Tyler PRESCOT,  found space inside the penalty area and forced the ball over the line…off his hip. Garswood where back in the game and the greatest come-back since Liverpool’s famous 2005 Champions League Final win was on the cards.

Tyler DUFFY later stated that his corner technique was all down to the coaching he had been given over the past couple of years and Tyler PRESCOT confirmed the ‘hip’ was one they regularly practised in training.

Into the second half and Garswood not only equalised, they actually took the lead with strikes from Daniel WHITE and Jack O’BRIEN. Daniel scoring his first goal in years, and Jack getting onto the end of a great passing move, he coolly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. Jack admitted that his calm un-flustered finish was down to the great work done by the coaches at the Club.

Garswoods lead was short lived as an Eastleigh corner found its way into the goal, although keeper Adam BOWERS was convinced it never crossed the line, a passing Russian linesman waved his flag and the goal was given. Adam later said he felt he had let the coaching staff down, “They’ve worked tirelessly with me all year on crosses but there was a swirling wind, the sun was in my eye’s and I could hear my dad singing Man City’s ‘Blue Moon’ behind the goal, it was all off putting”

Garswood managed to lift themselves and in a thrilling finish in which both sides had chances Daniel WHITE incredibly scored his second of the game. A direct free kick was award just outside the Eastleigh area and struck home with the force of a ‘Jimmy Case’ special leaving the keeper no chance. Daniel said the Coaches have been working on my free kicks all season and when I was told to step up and take this one I knew exactly what I was going to do with it, although I’ve never seen  ‘Jimmy Case’ I know he was a great Liverpool player.

The FIFTH and final goal came way of an unfortunate own goal by Eastleigh, Garswood midfielder Thomas HUGHES tried to claim the goal after his tame shot was deflected by a defender onto the post, then hit the keeper before rolling into the net. Although Thomas claimed his shot was ‘always going in’ replays show its was going well wide. His father Paul HUGHES, a life long Everton fan, claimed it was a conspiracy “I’ve seen it happen before to my beloved Everton, in the 1977 F.A Cup semi-final against Liverpool we had a goal taken away from Bryan Hamilton that robbed us of a place in the final and then in 2005 ‘Big Dunc’ had a goal taken away from him against Villareal in the Champions League qualifiers, we would have gone on to win the cup both times, I just know we would, and we would have stopped Liverpool being the greatest British team of all time”  “Although I’m not bitter, this goal could have set our Thomas on his way as a striker like Brett Angell or Stuart Barlow”.

Although not on the score sheet, Luke SIMPSON and Joe DINLEY ran endlessly throughout the game, Luke told everyone that his dad thought it was the best team performance he had seen since Liverpool beat Man Utd 3-1. Defender Harry SCOTT, played a blinder as the last line of defence as Garswood went all out attack. With a new ‘Diamond’ formation developed over the course of two friendlies and the two strikers playing tandem the team finally bonded after losing 19 of the previous 21 matches. Joe DINLEY was at a loss to explain how he has failed to score all season even after the excellent coaching, he said “My dad told me, ‘ Son, It only takes a second to score a goal’, I just haven’t been able to find that second”.

Harry Scott told everyone how his dad had been reading coaching manuals the night before the last game, ‘The Art Of Goal Scoring Made Easy’ and ‘The Diamond Formation….. A Guaranteed Success’. Harry said ” He’s had them all season but he only read them last night, we could have won the league and everything”

Although he couldn’t be at the game head coach Kev O’Neil sent the following message to the B squad players

“Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure…than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”.
Kev message to his assistant Ian Scott was “Acknowledge that you failed, draw your lessons from it, and use it to your advantage to make sure it never happens again.”

Here’s to next season

Rainhill Utd B 3-4 Garswood C

The match started with Rainhill on the attack from the off. Gaswood withstand early pressure until Rainhill get the first goal on 10 mins. Defence out of position. Simple tap in on the back post. The lads pick themselves up and get on with the game, both teams playing well. A very good contest for the rest of the first half. Both keepers making good saves to keep their team in the game. 1 – 0 at half time.

Second half gets underway as the first. Garswood slow to get going. Rainhill score from a corner 2-0, on 40 mins. From then on Garswood spark into life. Om the attck Ethan Miller wins a free kick well outside the box, on the right wing. Declan Livesley delivers an exellent cross to the back post where Keiran Lackey slides in on 48 mins. 2-1.

Ten mins later after a very good spell from Garswood, they get another free kick in the same position. Declan sends the ball into the box. This time Ethan slots the ball in. 2-2 on 58 mins. Both keepers are kept busy making good saves. On 62 mins Rainhill score again from a corner 3-2.

Garswood pick themselves up again and come back. Keiran takes the ball from halfway straight through the middle and is brought down in the box. The ref. gives a penalty kick. Wesley Spencer steps up as Captain and slots the ball under the keep on 65 mins. 3-3.

5 mins to go Garswood well on top. Everyone giving 100%. With 1 min to go Dylan Robinson receives a pass from Dan Foster. Finds himself one on one with the keeper and fires the ball into the corner, giving the keeper no chance. 3-4

Garswood work hard for last minute to keep Rainhill out. Brilliant win away from home against a very good team.
Well done lads. Heads never dropped once, and never gave up.

Excellent personal performances from: Charlie Eatock,Keiran Lackey,Wesley Spencer and Callum Eden. Good debut from Daniel Foster and welcome back Nathan Bonney, whos been out since October 2010 with a broken arm.

Man of the Match: Declan Livesley who played right wing first half and right back 2nd half.

Eagle 1-2 Seneley & Garswood C

Garswood go into this fixture with lots of confidence from last weeks performance.

As usual a very close contest between these two sides. Nothing much in it for the first 20 mins, both sides playing well and creating chances, then a slip at the back lets Eagles centre forward in as he shoots from outside the box. He miskicks the ball to a player in an offside position, who slots the ball past Callum for the second week in a row. Very frustratingly the goal stands 1-0 to Eagle. The game continues very tight to half time.

Garswood get 2nd half under way, determined to write the bad decision off and really get stuck in. Both teams continue to play well when at 45 mins Ethan Miller picks up the ball ten yards outside the box. He takes on the defender and beats him into the box and slots the ball past the keeper. A superb individual goal 1-1.

Eagle come back strong. Callum Eden makes some good saves to keep it level. Also Declan Livesley and Charlie Eatock make brilliant tackles inside the box to keep Eagle out. Garswood ride their luck as Eagle strike the crossbar on 55 mins. The match is evenly balanced, then Garswood begin to pressure the Eagle goal. First with a good chance for Danny Fitzpatrick from a pass from Ethan Miller, then a shot from Connor Locklin just over the bar. Garswood continue to press winning a corner.

Ethan Miller catches Eagle asleep at the back, passes the ball short to Connor who takes a touch and puts in a great cross straight onto Wesley Spencer’s head, on the penalty spot. A brilliant brave header from Wesley. 2-1 on 62 mins.

The last 8 minutes are end to end as Eagle try to get one back. A very exciting game with the right final result. Excellent efforts from all the team especially Wesley Spencer, Keiran Lackey, and Callum Eden in goal, who was Man of the Match. Well Done lads, you deserved it!!!!

Garswood 2-2 Appleton B

Game started at a fast pace on a wet pitch and still raining. Garswood have a good first 15 mins going close twice and eventually Wesley Spencer gets the opening goal on 20 mins, from a good team build up and a final pass into the box by Ethan Miller.

Appleton respond going close from kick off, but Garswood stay focused. End to end for 10 mins. Apleton score on 30 mins 1 -1. Both keepers make good saves to keep it 1-1 ar half time.

Second half continues a very close contest, then on 45 mins Appleton score a clear offside goal. Very disappointing for Garswood who were the best team upto this point. They get on with it and score a goal which clearly crosses the line but the ref. was too far away to be sure and doesnt give it. Another very disappointing decision.

Garswood continue to press eventually scoring on 60 mins. Wesley Spencer getting his second from a great free kick into the box from Connor Locklin.

Garswood continue to play well. Chances at both ends on 65 mins Ethan Miller shoots and the ball gets stuck in the mud 2 feet off the goal line. Any other day it would have been a goal.

Both Goalkeepers continue to play well making very good saves.

Great game, very close. Garswood deserved the win but wasnt to be be.

All the team were excellent. Well Done Everyone!

Man of the match – Craig Gough.

Strong performances by Kieran Lackey in centre midfield and Charlie Eatock at centre back. Also Wesley Spencer(C) was excellent up front.

Well Done to Callum Eden in goal, who kept us in it twice in the first Half.

Garswood 3-0 Rainhill B

Rainhill Utd were the visitors as Seneley & Garswood Juniors looked to claim their 4th consecutive straight league win.

Both teams started brightly, but it was Garswood who opened the scoring in the 7th minute as Cameron Davies chased a through ball from Ryan Eden and rounded the keeper to slot into an empty net. Cameron was then brought down in the box in the 29th minute, and picked himself up to fire his spot kick into the top corner giving the keeper no chance, and sending the home side into the interval 2-0 up.

Cameron Davies then capped another terrific display with a well taken 3rd goal in the 37th minute, after fine work from James Haswell. Garswood & Rainhill Utd both had chances to add to their tally, but excellent work from both keepers ensured the game finished 3-0 to the home side.

Garswood head to their top of the table clash with Orford next week in fine form. Man of the Match – Mattias Lokuta (midfield dynamo).

Woolston 6-2 Garswood

The game started as usual at a fast pace with good spells of football from both sides. Woolston opened the scoring with a long range slot from outside the box, on 15 mins, giving Callum in goal no chance.

Garswood replied straight away with a great move from midfield involving Connor Locklin and Ethan Miller ending in Wesley Spencer slotting the ball into the bottom corner. Garswood continued with lots of pressure in all areas of the pitch, Ethan Miller getting their second, to go 1 – 2 on 25 mins, with a neat lob over the keeper after a great pass from Connor.

Both teams were well up for this game, and both went close to scoring, testing the keepers. Woolston finally equalized  one min before half time, again with a long range shot. 2 – 2 at half time.

Second half a good contest, Much the same as the first. Woolston score to go ahead on 45 mins and get another 5 mins later. Garswood start to look tired but keep working hard. Excellent efforts from Charlie Eatock and Kieran Lackey keep Woolston out. Ethan goes very close twice, just getting knocked off the ball in the box. Connor wins free kick on the edge of the box, which goes just over the bar. Woolston get a goal with a breakaway down the left to make it 5 – 2, and put the game out of Garswoods reach. They score again with 5 mins left to make final score 6 – 2.

A great game played in the right spirit. 2nd in league against the bottom. A very close contest considering the result. Well Done Garswood lads. Very proud of you. All great effort and attitude. Keep playing the way you are, first win is coming.

Man of the match ; Dylan Robinson, who never put a foot wrong all game. Great efforts by Charlie, Keiran, Connor, Wesley, Ethan and Tom.

Cromwell B 1-6 Garswood U14 A

Garswood were chasing their 4th win of the season but got off to the worst possible start when they conceded a well taken goal after 5 minutes as Cromwell took a deserved lead. This sparked Garswood into life and after a number of missed chances and outstanding saves by the Cromwell goalie Grant finally put them level after a through ball by Quinny which the Cromwell defender sliced into his path and he lobbed it into the net. Garswood kept the pressure on Cromwell who were struggling to get out of their own half by now and it was only a matter of time before they added a second. It came through right midfielder Ben Whittle who got on the end of a cross from the left by Grant, he struck it first time and wrong footed the goalie to put Garswood into a deserved 2-1 half time lead.

The second half started as the first finished with Garswood totally dominating and 10 minutes in, a great ball from the left from Mike found Patrick in the box who brought it down and fired it in for his second goal of the season, it wasn`t long till the outstanding Grant Pilling got his 5th goal in 3 games after he put it in at the second attempt, the Cromwell goalie saved his first attempt but he followed it in and finished from a tight angle. It was the two subs who finished the scoring with new signing Leon Rosa getting his first for the club after another diagonal ball from the very impressive Mike Tinsley. He controlled well and rifled it into the bottom corner to make it 5-1. Jamie Mcquade finished the scoring with a nice piece of skill to beat the last defender and smashed a great left foot drive into the roof of the net to complete one of the most oustanding peformances I have witnessed as Garswood manager. We need to keep this up over the next 3 weeks as we are playing the 3 teams above us WELL DONE LADS!

Garswood U14 A 5-0 East Leigh

Garswood recorded their 3rd win of the season with a convincing victory over bottom of the table side east Leigh, it should have been 3or 4 by the time Jamie Jackson struck a sweet shot from outside the box which hit the post and went in giving the Leigh goalie no chance. it wasn’t long till the second followed with Grant eventually getting his goal after forcing the Leigh goalie into a number of close range saves he tapped in from close range and it looked as though it was over by half time .

East Leigh came out firing in the second half and Garswood couldn’t get out of there own half with Leigh failing to take their chances one of them being a penalty, they were Made to pay as Garswood hit them on the break and Patrick kept his cool and slotted from close range ,but again east Leigh still didn’t give up and they kept coming at Garswood but still without any joy against the resilient Garswood defence who were fighting for their second consecutive clean sheet and were being pushed all the way by Leigh but again they were punished as mike whipped a corner from the right and Lewis struck from inside the 6yard box for his 4th goal in 3 games, but Garswood weren’t finished there as right at the death the two subs Jamie mc & Leon combined to set up grant for his second of the game with a 3yard thunderbolt.

It was another good win for Garswood who moved into 4th so let’s keep it going lads.

Garswood U14 A 5-0 East Leigh

Garswood recorded their 3rd win of the season with a convincing victory over bottom of the table side east Leigh, it should have been 3 or 4 by the time Jamie Jackson struck a sweet shot from outside the box which hit the post and went in giving the Leigh goalie no chance.

It wasn’t long till the second followed with Grant eventually getting his goal after forcing the Leigh goalie into a number of close range saves he tapped in from close range and it looked as though it was over by half time .

East Leigh came out firing in the second half and Garswood couldn’t get out of there own half with Leigh failing to take their chances one of them being a penalty, they were Made to pay as Garswood hit them on the break and Patrick kept his cool and slotted from close range.

But again East Leigh still didn’t give up and they kept coming at Garswood but still without any joy against the resilient Garswood defence who were fighting for their second consecutive clean sheet and were being pushed all the way by Leigh but again they were punished as mike whipped a corner from the right and Lewis struck from inside the 6yard box for his 4th goal in 3 games, but Garswood weren’t finished there as right at the death the two subs Jamie mc & Leon combined to set up grant for his second of the game with a 3yard thunderbolt.

Garswood U10 D 1-0 Grange

Today, Seneley and Garswood under 10’s D squad played a home game against a Grange C team side that beat us 3-1 away only two or three weeks back.

Everyone was psyched up before the game, although the training was a little bit uncontrollable, you could tell something amazing was going to happen that day.

We kicked off first and from the start played well. We were definitely the best team on the day. The team played really well down the wings. Eoin Clarey fired one in across the box, just after half time. Birthday boy, Liam Horrocks throw-ins were unbeatable. That’s what set up Michael Kimberly’s little chip shot of a goal.

The defence played really well getting there second clean sheet of the season. Every ball that came to them was cleared out. The keeper is in an unstoppable form. just before half, Matthew Melling hit the cross bar and the first chance of the game would of been a goal if it wasn’t for Daniel Hubbard just catching the ball with his left foot before he swung his other to shoot.

The whole team played well and it was really hard to pick a man of the Match. But in the end, it went to birthday boy Liam Horrocks for his brilliant Personal Performance.
